Transform Your Career with a Skills Bootcamp. Sector specific training programmes for jobseekers and employees within East Sussex.

East Sussex College is excited to be part of the Skills Bootcamp training initiative launching across East Sussex giving adults the chance to gain in-demand industry skills – at little or no cost.

Skills Bootcamps are free for unemployed learners and heavily subsidised for employers, helping local businesses to upskill staff and address sector-specific skills gaps.

Courses run for up to 16 weeks and are free for eligible learners who are unemployed, 19+ , who live in East Sussex can also support employers looking to upskill existing staff through heavily subsidised training.

East Sussex College’s Skills Bootcamps will equip you with the technical knowledge needed to succeed in three key sectors. Whether you’re looking to start a new career, develop your existing skills, or gain more responsibility in your current role, these programmes offer a valuable route to progression.

For those out of work or looking to change careers, the Skills Bootcamps come with a guaranteed interview for a relevant job upon completion.

Course Information

Duration: 5-10 weeks (part-time)

Fully funded for eligible unemployed learners.

Available to those who are looking for work or who are currently employed.

If you are employed, there is a small employer contribution required from your employer.

Introduction to Engineering Industry Skills Bootcamp

East Sussex College has secured funding to launch a brand-new Introduction to Engineering Industry Skills Bootcamp!

Designed to support adults into employment or apprenticeships within the engineering sector, the programme combines practical training, employability development, and industry-focused learning in professional-standard engineering workshops and specialist facilities.

Ore Valley Campus - Hastings.

Course content:

Introduction to Engineering Skills at Level 2

Practical mechanical and electrical skills

Technical knowledge

Workplace-ready employability skills through hands-on projects, collaborative activities, employer engagement, and interview preparation.

Catering Skill Bootcamp

The Skills Bootcamp in Catering will provide you with the vital qualification and knowledge for entering this rewarding sector. This course has been developed with longstanding professionals in the catering industry, so by getting your teeth into this Skills Bootcamp you will also receive valuable talks and insights from local employers, including the Grand Hotel – Eastbourne.

Our Skills Bootcamp for Teaching Assistants is a fast-track route into the education sector, giving you the confidence, qualifications and practical know-how to thrive in a school environment

Next Course starting Autumn 2026!

5-6 weeks – 2 days per week

Eastbourne Campus

Course content:

You will gain a Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning

During this course you will understand how to:

Safeguard children and young people

How children and young people develop

How to support Health and Safety in the learning environment

Understand the role leisure, play, and extracurricular activities have on children and young people.

Workplace-ready employability skills through hands-on projects, collaborative activities, employer engagement, and interview preparation.


Learner Eligibility

Courses run for up to 16 weeks and are free for eligible learners who are unemployed, 19+ , who live in East Sussex. We can also support employers looking to upskill existing staff through heavily subsidised training.

  • Aged 19+
    • on or before 31 August 2025 for bootcamps starting between 01 June 2026 and 31 July 2026
    • on or before 31 August 2026 for bootcamps starting between 01 August 2026 and 01 March 2027
  • Live or work in East Sussex
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Learners cannot be not currently enrolled in formal education, including another Skills Bootcamp.

Employers

Businesses within East Sussex can use Skills Bootcamps as a cost-effective way to employ new staff or upskill their current workforce. Skills Bootcamps can help upskill your current employees, enabling them to advance within your organisation.

Training an existing employee, on Skills Bootcamp will require businesses to make a small contribution to the training. Skills Bootcamps are funded the UK Government.

Costs

  • 10% if you are a small to medium employer with 1 to 249 employees
  • 30% if you are a large employer with 250 or more employees

Employees will need time away from the business to attend a Skills Bootcamp. There is no cost to recruit learners who have completed a Skills Bootcamps.
