Creative Crafts for Wellbeing: Quilting for Beginners

Discover the wellbeing benefits of focusing on arts and crafts. This is a short course in quilting for beginners. Learn new skills and develop your artistic talents in a fun and supportive environment. Learn how to make an eclectic patchwork quilt from scraps of material. Starting with the basics of geometrical design and learning traditional techniques, you will work with colour and texture to craft a quilt or other small item for your home. As we go, we’ll look at the origins of quilting and how it has developed as a contemporary craft. Mindfulness and positivity will be encouraged, with music, audio book and podcast suggestions to take away and sew with, aimed to boost mood and to discuss with the group.

Materials are provided however learners are welcome to bring along any fabric of their own to make their quilt more personal to them.

What will I study?

What qualification will I achieve?

There is no qualification for this course but you will receive a certificate of attendance if you complete the course.

What can I do after completing this course?

You can explore a variety of other courses within Community Learning or the adult college, including our Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts.

Are there any extra costs?

Course fee: £30.00 This course is free if you are in receipt of benefits or earn less than £25,000 per year (this includes pension income)
