This enjoyable course helps connect your art to nature while helping you learn new skills and techniques in wood carving. You'll learn how to use a mallet and a variety of equipment, including a gouge.

What will I study?

This is a very enjoyable and structured course that will teach you a range of wood carving techniques. Led by our expert tutor Danny Manning, you'll be well supported and guided throughout so you can work on a personalised wood project.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous informal assessment throughout the sessions, and where appropriate, through the use of Individual Learning Plans, as specified by RARPA

What qualification will I achieve?

There is no qualification for this course, but you'll be awarded a certificate of attendance if you attend 80% or more of the course.

What can I do after completing this course?

Once you have finished this course, you could join other creative courses such as mosaic making.

Are there any extra costs?

There are extra costs for the students for this course. Students need to buy a wood carving kit set available from Amazon at the cost of £18.00 approx. Hardwood for carving is provided by the college at no extra cost.

Additional Info

You will need to bring a carvers mallet and a round carvers gouge (chisel) to each lesson. You can buy these from an Ironmongers or online. We'll give you more advice during the first session on any additional tools you may need for the rest of the course. please note there wont be a lesson on 6 October as it is open day
