Icon Painting Course

Have you ever been curious about the icons you may have seen in churches on holiday or in UK churches? Did their Beauty & mystery inspire you? Painting your own icon gives the opportunity to touch the beauty & mystery of these images. Join a 10 week evening class and paint your own icon detail of The Mother of God. Each week your tutor, Sharon Seager will guide you through the steps, introduce you to the technique of liquid egg tempera painting & give an introductory insight into the meaning of each step of the process. Classes begin with prayers before each step is demonstrated & explained. As you accomplish the task there is individual attention from the tutor & time for questions. Over the 10 weeks you can expect to complete the project. There will be no gilding in this class. The icon will be painted on small gesso practice boards - these and all materials and handouts are included.

After the course is finished there may be an opportunity to bring your icon to the Church of The Holy Image, St Leonards for a blessing service. This is not obligatory, just an opportunity to see your icon used in its natural context.
