Summer School - Drawing and Painting

Join us for an exciting and creative week of drawing and painting. Spend the week exploring new techniques, developing an understanding of composition, and learning how to use colour effectively in your work. You are welcome to bring along your own project or start something completely new, with the opportunity to try life drawing or painting.

Using your own work as a starting point, you will explore the challenges and possibilities of both painting and drawing during this week-long summer school. The course also offers the option to focus on life drawing and painting.

What will I study?

This summer school offers 5 days of experimentation and exploration of contemporary art practices. You will be able to investigate a range of art materials and processes, moving from observation drawing and painting to collage, transcriptions and abstraction. You will be able to test out your abilities in mark making, colour mixing and find new ways of working with abstraction and the expanded field of painting. Each day will focus on a set theme or subject enabling you to develop your own abilities and discover how different artists interpret similar subjects.

This is a relaxed class focussed on enabling you to develop a personal visual language and is suitable for all abilities.

Additional Info

Tutor, Sharon Haward is an artist based in Hastings and who has exhibited widely and has participated and produced work for artists led projects, residencies and commissions in the UK and Europe. She works with a wide range of media and materials including installation, sculpture, film and photography and her practice is focused on an exploration of the relationship between our bodies and architectural space. Sharon Has over 30 years teaching experience, working in formal and informal educational settings and appealing to those with a keen interest in self expression and contemporary art practice.
