Creative Textiles Exploration

Delve into the world of tactile textiles in this 1/2 day a week course. Join for 1 term or come for the whole year! Over the course you will explore contemporary crafts, traditional stills, sustainable practices, tactile textures and creativity through exploring textiles.

The course will cover knit (hand and machine), crochet, weave, embroidery (hand and machine), experimental materials, heat press, punch needle, quilting and fabric manipulation. As well as textile techniques you will explore finding inspiration and designing, working on developing ideas through drawing and collage. Along with exploring applications, like fashion, interiors or fine art.

If you are looking to try out new techniques or broaden your personal practice this course is a chance to learn more and explore your creativity. Perfect for those wishing to find their new favourite past time or those wishing to build a textile portfolio.

The course is run by Katie Jones a creative textiles designer. Katie's personal specialism is in knitwear and sustainable practices. She runs her own crochet business producing patterns and DIY guides. Katie also works as a freelance textile artist creating windows for Selfridges and working in the fashion industry. She has previously sold her pieces internationally, received the Selfridge Bright New Thing award and had her work exhibited in the V&A. Alongside her work she has written 2 books and works as a fashion and textiles lecturer. Having taught  for over 10 years and working at Nottingham Trent University, Middlesex university, Morley College and ESCG, Katie is excited to share her skills and experience with you in this fun and creative course.
