During this course, the tutor will start you with a series of projects which will help you learn the basics, from setting up a sewing machine to putting in zips and buttonholes. Learning these basics will help you understand the fundaments of garment construction.
After these projects, you will learn how to read and understand dressmaking patterns and begin to sew a stylish wardrobe that fits YOU!
This class will cover techniques including:
Marking & Cutting Fabric Hemming
Understanding of commercial patterns
Different ways of finishing seams
Tips & Techniques for garment construction
Inserting Zips
Buttonholes
Pattern lay plans & straight of grain
Once you have completed this course, you might like to try our mend and make do course, to learn how to repair your own clothes.
There are some extra costs with this course, as you will need to buy materials.
This course is ideal for beginners and for new sewers looking for pattern and sewing guidance.
We have large cutting tables, sewing tables and sewing machines available to use. But please feel free to bring your own machine if you’d prefer.
The course is led by our expert tutor, Melodie Bright. She is a Kingston University graduate and a sustainable fashion designer, running an online made to order clothing business.
