This course is the perfect starting point for anyone new to sewing. You will learn the essential skills needed to begin making simple sewing projects and garments while gaining confidence using a sewing machine.
In a relaxed and supportive environment, and through a series of guided projects, you will learn how to use sewing tools and equipment, cut fabric accurately, understand seam allowances, and work with commercial sewing patterns. Each project introduces new techniques while building on the skills learned in previous sessions. You will also receive prepared handouts with step-by-step guides that you can reuse at home.
Projects will include small accessories and simple garments designed to help you develop practical sewing skills and confidence.
By the end of the course, you will have completed several projects and gained the knowledge needed to continue sewing independently.

Understanding commercial sewing patterns
Pattern lay plans and working with the straight grain

After completing this course you may wish to continue developing your sewing skills through further textile or fashion courses, or join our Sew Sewcial class to continue working on personal sewing projects.
You will need to provide fabric and materials for your projects. A materials list will be provided at the start of the course.
