Traditional Textiles - Summer School

In this week-long summer school, you will discover the traditional textile techniques of Japanese Shibori, Block printing and Batik.

You will begin exploring six different types of Shibori techniques, and practice transferring these as patterns onto different types of materials. Then we will begin to practice Indian Block Printing and we will learn how to create a block (out of Lino) and transfer your print design onto onto fabric. Lastly, we will finish the course with Batik silk painting, an ancient art form of applying pattern and image to silk which originated in Indonesia.

Tutor, Vicky Kidd has a Textiles and Surface Decoration BA (hons) U.E.L and has over ten years of experience working in the textiles industry using traditional dyes and applications. Now, she teaches at the college and enjoys sharing her skills learnt within the industry.
