The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting offers technical training in accounting and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue or progress their career in accountancy or finance.

The purpose of the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting is to enhance the skills developed from the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, enabling students to maximise opportunities in their current or new employment. By studying for this qualification, students will acquire professional accountancy and finance skills that will be useful throughout their careers, including: • drafting financial statements for limited companies • having the knowledge and skills to use complex management accounting techniques • the ability to analyse accounting systems and their associated controls • having knowledge and skills in specialist accountancy and finance subjects.

What will I study?

The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting covers high-level accounting and finance topics and tasks. Students will look at and become comfortable with a wide range of financial management skills and applications and will gain competencies in drafting financial statements for limited companies, recommending accounting systems strategies and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports.

You will study the following mandatory units: • Applied Management Accounting • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls

You will also study two of the following optional units: • Business Tax • Personal Tax • Audit and Assurance • Cash and Financial Management • Credit and Debt Management

Note that ESCG provides tuition for Business Tax and Personal Tax only. It is possible for a student to sit the exam for an alternative optional unit but this should be discussed with the tutor prior to starting the course.

How will I be assessed?

All assessments are computer-based tests and projects which will be scheduled by East Sussex College but set and marked by the AAT. Assessments are time limited and take place at East Sussex College under controlled conditions.

What qualification will I achieve?

A Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting issued by the AAT, the professional body for accounting technicians.

What can I do after completing this course?

Once qualified, and having met AAT’s criteria, students can apply for full AAT membership, which will allow them to use the designatory letters MAAT after their name.

However, the primary and most important outcome of the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting is that it can lead to a wide variety of well-paid accountancy and finance jobs, some of which include:

Are there any extra costs?

You will be required to purchase your textbooks and a reading list will be provided prior to the start of the course along with discount codes for the publishers. The cost of books is approximately £160 when purchased new. These books are essential for successful completion of the course.

You will also need to pay an AAT registration fee directly to the AAT of £240. You will be provided with information about how to do this on the first day of the course.

Additional Info

Suitably employed students can also apply for a funded or part-funded apprenticeship in accounting on a day release basis. Applicants who wish to pursue this route but are not employed, will be advised on, and supported with, job applications. Please ask for further information about the apprenticeship route.
