What will I study?

The purpose of the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping is to ensure that students have the advanced bookkeeping skills necessary to work in a bookkeeping role or to progress to higher level accountancy.

This qualification comprises two mandatory units:

• Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements

• Tax Processes for Businesses.

A student completing this qualification will develop the skills needed for financial processes including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping and preparing financial statements. They will also understand business issues regarding payroll and value added tax (VAT) (which may be known by another name in other countries). All of this will be learned in the context of the ethical issues that a bookkeeper may encounter in their professional life.

The two units are assessed individually through computer based end of unit assessments.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

  1. Completion of AAT Skills Check. 2. Passed assessment 1 by the deadline set on Equal. 3. Have set up payment method for your course fees (eg payment plan, fee waiver).

How will I be assessed?

Students must successfully achieve the two mandatory unit assessments and to achieve this qualification. The proportion of this qualification assessed by externally marked assessment is 100%.

All assessments in this qualification:

  • are set and marked by AAT
  • are computer based
  • are time-limited
  • are scheduled by training providers or assessment venues
  • take place at approved training providers and assessment venues under controlled conditions
  • Unit assessments are available to be scheduled on demand throughout the year.

What qualification will I achieve?

What can I do after completing this course?

The skills developed by studying this qualification will enable a student to seek employment with confidence and/or to progress to the next level of learning.

The skills developed while studying this qualification could lead to employment as:

  • a Professional Bookkeeper
  • a Senior Bookkeeper
  • an Accounts Manager
  • a Ledger Manager *This qualification is not part of an apprenticeship.

Students completing this qualification may wish to go on and complete the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. If students wish to continue studying and choose to complete one of the full AAT Accounting Qualifications, their achievement/s in this qualification may be transferred to the larger qualifications.

FUNDING OPTIONS:

SELF-FUNDING Staged Payments – for courses of over 12 weeks and £200, students can pay in 4 instalments of, the first taken as a deposit on enrolment (via BACS or Debit/Credit Card) and then 3 further instalments taken via Direct Debit.

LOAN FUNDED (ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN) This course is Advanced Learner Loan funded providing you meet the below eligibility criteria:

19+ years old be living in the UK on the first day of your course be a UK national or Irish citizen or have ‘settled status’ (no restrictions on how long you can stay) have been living in the UK, British overseas territories, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years in a row before the first day of the first academic year of your course (apart from temporary absences such as holidays) Full eligibility criteria can be viewed by visiting: www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan/eligibility.

This Government loan will be paid directly to the college, and is linked to your attendance.

You will start to repay your loan when you start to earn over £25,000 per annum (correct at time of posting).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Cooling-off period

East Sussex College offer a 14-day cooling-off period for this course. This period allows you to evaluate the course and online study method, while also giving the college a chance to assess your suitability, in particular whether you can produce work to meet the academic standards.

Your cooling-off period commences from day one, inclusive of both weekdays and weekends, spanning a total of 14 days. Should the 14th day occur over a weekend, any notification of withdrawal received via email on or before this date will be honoured within the non-liability timeframe.

If you take out an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your fees, then this will be activated 14 days from the course start date stated in your learning and funding letter.

If you wish to withdraw, you must cancel your enrolment by notifying the Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will owe the full course fee plus an administration charge, in line with the ESCG Tuition Fee Policy https://www.escg.ac.uk/docs/policies/tuition-fee-policy/

The Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping is studied 100% via ELearning, so you do not need to attend classes in the College but have the flexibility to study at times to fit around your existing commitments.

You will study the online course materials and self-direct your study.

You will be set a study plan with deadlines to submit your assignments and work towards the unit exams.

You will be required to travel to an Approved AAT Centre which is local to you to sit exam.

The Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping develops existing skills and knowledge to an advanced level for anyone wishing to pursue a career in bookkeeping.

This qualification is suitable for those who have completed the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping and may help students already working in a bookkeeping role to progress by offering them formal recognition of their skills.

Students may wish to choose the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping to focus solely on developing their bookkeeping skills in order to progress quickly to employment or to focus on becoming a bookkeeper. Students may also wish to start with this qualification before progressing to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting in order to gain a wider knowledge of accountancy.

This qualification offers progression for students who already have bookkeeping knowledge, either to gain employment in a bookkeeping role or to progress to further study.

SUPPORT PROVIDED

Your assessor will guide you through the course providing assistance and a tailored course experience for you.

DELIVERY STYLE

This online course differs to a classroom course, as you will not be taught. Instead, you will study independently, and your progress will be monitored by the support tutor and admin team. The support tutor is available to contact if you have any questions or wish to have some additional tuition.

The learning materials and all unit assessments for this course is through an online platform (VLE). You will be required to complete 100% of the unit assessment questions by a set deadline and then revise and sit an AAT assessment (exam) at an approved AAT exam centre. This is the format for each unit of study.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL:
