What will I study?

Sensory courses are designed for those who have more acute learning difficulty and disability, with an emphasis on sensory activities and experience.

What is this course about? Explore through herbs, spices, taste and texture and learn basic cooking skills and safety for a domestic kitchen.
What will I be doing on this course? You will be cooking different dishes focusing on your senses of smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight. With support you will measure ingredients and follow instructions. You will also spend time showing/telling others about your experiences. What should I be able to do by the end? Develop your confidence in telling others about your daily experiences, likes and dislikes, and wants for the future.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through out the year with the opportunity to set your own personal goals to enable your progression personally and through the subject

What qualification will I achieve?

These courses are unaccredited, but you will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the year.

What can I do after completing this course?

You can continue with in community learning, trying a different subject or could progress onto other opportunities. Your teacher will be able to support you with your personal goals.

Are there any extra costs?

The course fee is per year (30 weeks), this includes all equipment/ ingredients needed.

Additional Info

Class sizes are typically small, generally no bigger than 10. Each class has one teacher and one learning assistant. You can attend independently or with a carer if required.
