This qualification is to prepare students to become early years educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. The qualification aims to focus on the study of early years education, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge, provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.

This qualification requires students to complete mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification. Students are required to successfully achieve 10 mandatory units:
Introduction to the role of the early years educator. Holistic child development Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Effective communication in an early years setting. Safeguarding and welfare requirements. Health, wellbeing and safety. Promoting an effective early years curriculum. Assessment of children's learning and development. Understanding play for holistic development and learning. Partnership working.
All units are assessed internally using a range of methods. This includes direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, and written assignments
NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for working in the Early Years sector (Early Years Educator)
Students who achieve this qualification could progress to the following: EMPLOYMENT: educator in day nurseries educator in nursery schools educator in reception classes in primary schools pre-school worker FURTHER EDUCATION: NCFE/CACHE Level 5 diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner HIGHER EDUCATION: personal statements may be accepted by universities.
