This part-time course is designed for adults aged 19+ who are working in the early years sector or looking to begin a career supporting children from birth to five years. It develops the essential knowledge and practical skills needed for high-quality early years practice, combining taught sessions with self-study and a weekly placement day to build real workplace experience. Delivered in one of our dedicated early years rooms, the course provides a professional learning environment. There is potential financial support through the Advanced Learner Loan or the Free Courses for Jobs scheme.

You will explore the full breadth of early years practice, from supporting babies to working confidently with children up to age five. There are no external exams, making this course a supportive and accessible route for adult learners.
ou will achieve the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (Diploma) (610/3984/6) – a full and recognised Level 3 qualification that meets the requirements to count in Level 3 staff ratios.
This qualification opens up a range of rewarding next steps, including: Early Years Educator roles in nurseries and preschool settings Teaching assistant roles (Early Years/KS1) Progression to Level 4/5 qualifications or foundation degrees Specialist pathways such as SEND, family support, or safeguarding Apprenticeships within early years and education
It’s an excellent stepping stone for career changers or those returning to work.
An optional Paediatric First Aid course may be offered as part of the qualification. There is a fee for this (your tutor will confirm cost and dates). You will also need to purchase a folder for your work if you do not have one.
Placement: You must complete a work placement in an early years setting to meet the practical assessment requirements. This can be arranged in a nursery, preschool or other approved setting.
DBS Check: A clear Enhanced DBS check is required before starting placement. The college will guide you through the application process.
