This course is for students aged 19+. The Level 2 technical award will provide an opportunity to gain a vocational qualification that gives an introduction to the sec-tor and enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding of health and social care.
This qualification is a good choice for you if have little or no previous experience and you wish to gain an understanding of health and social care. It is also ideal for you if you wish to progress to further learning in this area, as it supports progres-sion to a broad range of vocational training courses at Level 2 and above.
The qualification gives a broad and sufficiently in-depth base from which students can begin to make informed decisions concerning future career goals and aspira-tions. By completing three extensive core mandatory units, students will explore key areas within health and social care in order to establish a firm foundation from which future knowledge can develop and grow. Students can study this qualifica-tion alongside maths and/or English GCSEs, which may be required for higher level study.
The Level 2 Technical Award in Health & Social Care is a part time course aimed at adult learners.
The course is run to fit alongside current part time work commitments and to offer those already working in Health & Social Care or interested in becoming a Health & Social Care practitioner, a route into higher level qualifications in this field.
The course will enable learners to develop key knowledge, understanding and skills in relation the health and social care sector, and will cover specific units including:
• An introduction to the health and social care sector
• Professional practice and the health and social care practitioner
• Human growth and development through the life stages.
To gain this qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of a Pass grade in:
• each of the 3 internal mandatory assessments (externally set, internally marked)
• the scenario based short answer examination (externally set, externally marked).
Please note: the assessment opportunities for the externally set and marked short answer examination is limited to one attempt and one further reattempt opportunity.
The qualification is graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
You could progress onto a Level 3 programme to develop your knowledge and understanding, or you may choose to go into the workplace and undertake an apprenticeship, or study an Access to HE course and progress to University.
Alternatively, you may begin working in a care environment and start working towards your care certificate on the job
The standard fee for the course is £811, however the course is fundable under the Adult Education Budget for full / co funding depending on your age and prior quali-fications. There are no additional costs associated with this course.
Learners will be able to progress to the next level of learning in health and social care, for example, the Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care. Learners may also progress to an apprenticeship route in health and social care at either level 2 or level 3. Alternatively, you may begin working in a care environment and start working towards your care certificate on the job.
This is a knowledge-only qualification, therefore no work placement is required. Learners will be introduced to skills, attributes and behaviours applied in the sector in relation to best practice in health and social care.
The qualification is planned to run for 21 weeks (January to July) for one day a week on a Monday afternoon between 13.00-18.00. 1 hour of guided home learn-ing will additionally beset each week.
