BSc (Hons) Computing & Systems Development (top-up)

Our Computing and Systems Development top-up course has specifically been designed to help you achieve a full BSc (Hons) degree in this specialism. You will build on the knowledge and skills you have attained from previous study and expand your learning of networks, e-commerce and mobile technologies with imaginative and interesting lectures.

You will explore fundamental programming concepts, paradigms and programming languages, while thinking logically and imaginatively to develop creative solutions to problems.

You can study this top-up course full-time for one year, or part-time for two years, but either option will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications of computing and systems development preparing you for a career in the design and implementation of web and mobile based systems.

During your top-up degree you will be able to get creative with mobile application design, you will explore emerging computer technologies, and develop a sound understanding of web and network management. You will also understand and analyse advanced databases, and demonstrate your newly found skills in an end of year project.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Successful completion of an HND or Foundation Degree or equivalent accreditation (240 CAT points); if English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.5 with a 6 in writing; proof of qualifications; a satisfactory reference.

What can I do after completing this course?

Once you have graduated, you will have a diverse range of technical and transferable skills that will enable you to may pursue a career in the design and implementation of web and mobile based systems. Your knowledge of network design and management may also open opportunities for you to work in the vast arena of networked computer systems, in sectors such as banking, retail and insurance. You may decide to progress on to further study on MA programmes or complete a Post Graduate Certificate of Education.
