This 11-week course is ideal for you if you are a DIY enthusiast, homeowner, or if you're thinking about a change of career and want to try out the trade. You will learn the basic skills including how to use and maintain tools, basic woodworking joints, changing a lock, fitting ironmongery, and fixing skirtings and architraves. If you have a project in mind, something to fix, or just love the idea of learning new skills, this course could be catered to individual projects. Additional fees maybe incurred for Materials.
On this course you will develop your practical skills in carpentry or joinery, and improve your knowledge of the construction industry in general. You improve practical skills e.g. how to carry out first and second fixing, how to build a timber frame structure, and how to erect structural carcasses. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate these skills by building a model in one of our large modern workshop areas. You will also learn how to use site equipment for example to set up and operate a circular saw. There is also a theoretical element and s your practical skills progress, you will also need to be sure that your understanding of the principles behind the skills is at the same standard. You will need this level of understanding to work on site in the modern construction industry.
By a series of practical tasks in the workshop and on-line tests at the end of each unit.
