What will I study?

Students will practise and develop counselling skills, study different approaches to the use of counselling, study the importance of ethics in helping relationships and appreciate the importance of self-development in relation to helping others. This course is particularly suitable to those wishing to develop their use of counselling skills in the workplace.

The course focuses on personal development, counselling skills practice and theory. The course is rooted in the person-centred approach of counselling, with another approach studied as a comparative. Students will also learn about contracting, risk assessment, referral and gain knowledge of a range of helping organisations locally.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course using a range of methods, including written work and tutor/peer observations. Students submit a portfolio of completed work at the end of the course.

What qualification will I achieve?

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory.

What can I do after completing this course?

Use counselling skills in a range of settings. Progress to further courses in counselling or related subjects.

Are there any extra costs?

There are some recommended books, however the college Learning Resource Centre has a good selection. You will need an A4 ring binder.
