What will I study?

Using key concepts, this course will explore a range of interpersonal and counselling skills. Skills learnt include listening and communication, knowledge of the development of self and an understanding of how prejudices and value judgements impact our everyday life. This course is a pre-requisite of the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

This experientially taught course will explore a range of interpersonal & counselling skills using some of the key concepts from the counselling world. On completion participants will have gained useful transferable skills including listening & communication skills, knowledge of the development of self and an understanding of how prejudices & value judgements impact our everyday life.

How will I be assessed?

The course offers continual assessment from tutor and peers. Final assessment is via a portfolio consisting of skills feedback, self-assessment and learning journal. This course is NCFE accredited

What qualification will I achieve?

NCFE Level 1 Award in Interpersonal Skills

What can I do after completing this course?

This course can provide a pathway to counsellor training and leads to the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. You will need to complete this course in order to apply and interview for Level 2. You may wish to look into course start dates if you wish to follow the pathway. Alternatively, participants will gain valuable transferable skills in the workplace

As there are some aspects of course content and activities that are not suitable for students under the age of 18 years, entry is only open to students aged 19 or over at the start of the academic year. Due to the confidential nature of counselling education, it may not be suitable to attend classes with individuals you are closely related to or have a personal relationship with.
