Please note: learners are limited to taking part in a maximum of three community learning courses throughout the academic year.
This course is open to anyone who has a passion for creative writing. You will begin to think about writing for the reader and experiment with different genres. You will also look at making your work more dramatic by focusing on structure, plot, and dialogue. You will learn research techniques to improve your word-building skills and will be encouraged to keep a creative writing journal. Most importantly, you will develop your editing and critical reading skills and will be expected to give and receive feedback from your peers. This four-week course is a mixture of solo writing practice, fun exercises, and peer support. We will be looking at diverse and inclusive literary examples by emerging and established authors.
