This 10 week course will explore a different element of fiction writing each week, learning through reading relevant fiction texts extracts and doing a range of different writing exercises. Learners will work towards writing a piece of fiction in progress for the last few weeks where we will workshop them as a class. The course is open to all, but may best suit those who have done some writing before.

This course will help you to improve your writing by looking at examples of published and fictional writing to learn techniques for developing characters, dialogue, evocative description of places, point of view, characters in conflict, and good beginnings and endings and have a chance to discuss contemporary literature. Each week we will concentrate on a different theme important to writing fiction, such as characters, setting, plot, theme, dialogue.
While there is no real assessment in the course, we will have regular peer-led workshops and teacher critiques throughout the course. Then in the final week, we have a critique on a story you have developed during the course.
There is no formal qualification for this course.
