If you’re considering a career change and want to learn a valuable, versatile skill, barbering is an excellent choice. As a hands-on profession, it allows you to develop practical expertise while expressing your creativity through modern, on-trend styles. Throughout the course, you’ll gain the knowledge and techniques needed to cut men’s hair with confidence and precision.
During your studies, you will complete four key units:

These units are designed to equip you with the essential skills to work professionally and deliver a high standard of service.
You will be required to demonstrate a good level of English in both written and communication skills, in line with the level of the course.
You will be assessed through a combination of practical and theoretical methods designed to reflect real working environments. Your practical skills will be evaluated through observation as you demonstrate barbering techniques, while your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through written work and coursework.
In addition, you will complete externally marked online exams, which are multiple-choice. These exams will test your understanding of key concepts, including health and safety, client care, and barbering techniques.
Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Barbering.
Once you have completed this course, you can begin progressing into employment within the barbering industry, taking your first steps towards working in a commercial barbershop environment. This qualification provides a strong foundation to help you build experience, develop your confidence, and grow as a professional barber.
If you wish to further enhance your skills, knowledge, and career prospects, you may also choose to progress onto our Level 3 Barbering course.
There is an additional cost for this course, as you will be required to purchase a standard barbering kit. This is a mandatory requirement and must be bought through our approved suppliers to ensure you have the correct professional equipment for your training.
You will be provided with full details of the kit, including what it contains and how to purchase it, during your college interview.

Our fully equipped salons are open to the public, giving you the opportunity to practise your skills on real, paying clients in a professional environment. This is an essential part of building your confidence and preparing you for work in the industry.
For your practical assessments, you will be required to carry out services on paying clients. While the college will support you in accessing clients where possible, it is ultimately your responsibility to source suitable clients for your assessments.
We also recommend that you undertake independent study at home to reinforce your learning and support your progress throughout the course.
