What will I study?

A career as a complementary therapist is fascinating, diverse, and challenging and helps make a difference in people's lives. During this course, you will learn how to work effectively as a complementary therapist. You'll study a range of topics, including aromatherapy, massage and reflexology, while units in anatomy, physiology and pathology, business practice, health and safety, and hygiene will ensure you have a sound theoretical background for your professional practice. An optional unit covering the principles of healthy eating and wellbeing will help you to enhance your skills in providing after-care advice and recommendations to your clients. Throughout the course, you will develop your interpersonal and communication skills, emphasising reflection and reflective practice.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

You will be required to demonstrate a good level of English in both written and communication skills, in line with the level of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Your skills and knowledge will be assessed in line with national occupational standards in a variety of methods, such as compiling case studies, a portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, and external written papers.

What qualification will I achieve?

Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a VTCT Level 3 in Complementary Therapies.

What can I do after completing this course?

Once you have finished this course, you will be ready to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, hospices, health centres and commercial beauty salons, day spas, or working independently as a self-employed therapist, either mobile or in a home-based setting. Are there any extra costs?

There are a few extra costs for this course, as you will be expected to purchase course materials such as aromatherapy oils, course textbooks and a salon uniform. We'll be able to give you more details during your college interview.

This qualification is recognised by the UK's largest complementary therapy trade body/professional association, The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). It is also recognised by the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing studetns for a career as a complementary therapist.
