What will I study?

In Functional Skills Maths, you will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and calculate fractions, decimals and percentages. You will learn how to calculate interest and discounts, and develop your understanding of angles and shapes, and units of volume, length, capacity, money and time. You will also study how data is represented in graphs, charts and diagrams, and learn about probability averages.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by taking two exams: one non-calculator paper and one calculator paper. Successful completion of both components will result in you achieving a Pass as your final grade.

What can I do after completing this course?

You could progress on to further study including GCSE Maths, or into employment or technical education such as an apprenticeship.

Are there any extra costs?

If you are aged 19 or over and have not previously achieved a Level 2 in Functional Skills Maths, or a C grade or grade 4 (or higher) in GCSE Maths, then this course will be fully funded for you. However, there may be additional costs for course materials.

This course is for adults aged 19 and over who have not previously achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills, or a D grade or grade 3 in the subject.

All applicants will be required to attend an initial assessment session ahead of enrolment to enable us to identify your current knowledge in the subject and ensure you are enrolled onto the most suitable level.
