The Journalist in You

On this entry level course, students will explore the basic skills a freelance journalist needs to research, record information and write articles. Whether you wish to write for personal enjoyment on a subject you are passionate about or have a desire to get your voice out there via a magazine or newspaper, students on this course will enjoy a well-rounded introduction to the basics of journalism. You will cover the key components of writing commentary, reviews, features and blogs aa well as a look at the ethics involved in publishing an article.

What will I study?

The course is an introduction course and no previous knowledge or skills are required. Energy and enthusiasm are more important than writing experience This is a highly practical course with a focus on both group and individual work. We will have discussions about articles, you will produce your own copy, and you will also be encouraged to complete activities outside of the classroom.

What qualification will I achieve?

There is no qualification for this course.

You can explore a variety of other courses within Community Learning or the adult college.

Are there any extra costs?

This course is free if you are in receipt of benefits or earn less than £25,750 per year (this includes pension income)*. Please select the relevant options when enrolling online.

There are no additional costs. All materials are provided unless otherwise stated.

*If you do not qualify for a free course the course fee will be £45.
