Music has enjoyed an unrivalled period of progression since the post-war Popular music invasion of the early 1950s. Rock 'n' Roll demanded a new kind of audience and record labels were quick to oblige: in came the mass produced 45rpm single and the birth of ‘the teenager’ kickstarting a cross-atlantic tidal wave of music and fashion mania.

What will I study?

This course will guide you through the essential chapters of music from post-war to the contemporary period. We will explore a selection of iconic songs that have had a profound impact alongside how consumption and accessibility to music has evolved over time. You’ll have the chance to explore both songs and a period of personal interest in class and the impact on cultural, political and social history.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous informal assessment throughout the sessions, and where appropriate, through the use of Individual Learning Plans, as specified by RARPA.

What qualification will I achieve?
