What will I study?

This course is divided into four units, designed to build your digital skills step-by-step, from the basics of computing through to online safety and modern technologies.

Unit 1: Computer Basics In this unit, you will learn about:

  • Different aspects of digital and media literacy
  • The basics of IT, including software, operating systems, and cloud computing
  • Different backup storage options and the importance of backup solutions
  • How to keep files and folders organised and use common file management tools
  • How search engines work, including basic algorithms and the structure of a URL

Unit 2: Digital Communication In this unit, you will learn about:

  • The main components of an email and tips for communicating effectively
  • The use of instant messaging, including popular apps and how to spot potential threats
  • Communicating via video calls for a range of purposes across different platforms

Unit 3: Using Technology In this unit, you will learn about:

  • A basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and how it is used
  • Types of collaborative software and their role in modern life
  • Different mobile apps, including how to download and use them
  • How to use social media safely, including digital ethics and responsible online behaviour

Unit 4: Digital Safety In this unit, you will learn about:

  • Common online risks and how to keep yourself safe
  • How to protect your data, including recognising scams, avoiding online fraud, and creating secure passwords
  • Safe use of web browsers and how to download content securely

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for this course is completed online through a knowledge quiz at the end of the ELearning. You will be required to work through all units of the course content before attempting the assessment, ensuring you have developed the necessary knowledge and understanding. The quiz is designed to test your learning across all topics covered, and you must achieve a minimum score of 80% to pass. Once you have successfully reached this pass mark, you will be able to progress and complete the course.

This is an unaccredited course that can be used to enrich your knowledge and understanding and enhance your CPD.

What qualification will I achieve?

On completion of this course, you will gain a valuable understanding of digital technologies and how they are used in everyday life, helping to build your confidence and support your personal and professional development. Although this is an unaccredited course, it is designed to enhance your knowledge, skills, and continuing professional development (CPD). Once you have successfully completed the course and assessment, you will receive a digital certificate, which can be used to evidence your learning and achievement.
