About this qualification

The purpose of the NCFE Level 3 in Coding Practices is to provide learners with sector awareness. It will provide the learner with a chance to develop knowledge and skills relating to coding practices with the view to seeking employment or proceeding to further study in this area.

Who is it suitable for?

Those looking to consolidate their knowledge of coding and learn practical skills which can be used to seek work or proceed into study at Level 4.

What will I study?

MANDATORY UNITS:

  • Coding Requirements and Planning (M/618/0976)

  • Understand Coding Design (A/618/0978)

  • Implementation of Coding (F/618/0979)

  • Software Testing (T/618/0980)

  • Understand Deployment, Maintenance and Configuration Management (A/618/0981)

How will I be assessed?

Learners will be assessed entirely online through our dedicated learning platform. All study materials, activities and assessments are provided digitally, allowing learners to work independently and at their own pace.

Throughout the course, learners will complete a series of online knowledge checks, written tasks and module assessments that demonstrate their understanding of the subject. These assessments are submitted through the platform and are marked by a dedicated assessor, who will provide feedback and support where required.

The course duration is 8 months. To maintain steady progress and complete the qualification on time, we recommend that learners commit to approximately 6 hours of study per week. This may vary depending on individual pace and confidence.

What can I do after completing this course?

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

  • Level 4 Certificate in IT
  • Level 4 Diploma in Software Development
  • Software Development Technician apprenticeship.

Staged Payments – for courses of over 12 weeks and £200, students can pay in instalments of, the first taken as a deposit on enrolment (via BACS or Debit/Credit Card) and then 3 further monthly instalments.

*Load Funded (Advanced Learner Loan)

This course is Advanced Learner Loan funded providing you meet the below eligibility criteria:

  • 19+ years old
  • be living in the UK on the first day of your course
  • be a UK national or Irish citizen or have ‘settled status’ (no restrictions on how long you can stay)
  • have been living in the UK, British overseas territories, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years in a row before the first day of the first academic year of your course (apart from temporary absences such as holidays)

This Government loan will be paid directly to the college and is linked to your attendance.

You will start to repay your loan when you start to earn over £25,000 per annum (correct at time of posting).

COLLEGE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

*Cooling-off period

East Sussex College offer a 14-day cooling-off period for this course. This period allows you to evaluate the course and online study method, while also giving the college a chance to assess your suitability, in particular whether you can produce work to meet the academic standards.

Your cooling-off period commences from day one, inclusive of both weekdays and weekends, spanning a total of 14 days. Should the 14th day occur over a weekend, any notification of withdrawal received via email on or before this date will be honoured within the non-liability timeframe.

If you take out an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your fees, then this will be activated 14 days from the course start date stated in your learning and funding letter.

If you wish to withdraw, you must cancel your enrolment by notifying the Administration Team in writing (by e-mail) prior to day 14 and you will owe nothing. After 14 days, you will owe the full course fee plus an administration charge, in line with the ESCG Tuition Fee Policy https://www.escg.ac.uk/docs/policies/tuition-fee-policy/

*Essential:

  • Access to a device (laptop/PC/tablet) the minimum recommended study time per week (study via a mobile device isn’t advised)
  • Internet access
  • Demonstrate a good standard of English Language and math

Recommended:

Learners should have completed a Level 2 qualification in either IT or Coding.
