Our Teacher Education Access course prepares you for degree-level study in Primary Education courses. You will study school-based practice, education studies, psychology, and sociology. You will also develop your research skills, ready for your degree.

What will I study?

Our Teacher Education Pathway prepares students for degree level study on a wide range of Primary Education degree courses. Previous students from this Pathway have progressed onto degree courses such as Primary Education with QTS, Primary Education with Mathematics Specialism, Primary Special Educational Needs with QTS. On this Pathway, in addition to the core modules, you will be studying the following subject modules:

  • School-Based Practice
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • The Psychology of Early Socialisation
  • Development of Social Welfare
  • Social Welfare in the 21st Century
  • Anti-Discriminatory Practice
  • Education Studies
  • The History of Education
  • Working with Literary Texts * Literature and Society

This course will help you gain access to teaching courses at university. You will study a combination of education studies, developmental psychology, social theory, and literature studies. You will also gain the study skills required for your chosen degree course.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Assignments, which take a variety of forms (such as essays, reports and presentations) are completed for each module. Students on all pathways complete a final assessment of a research project and presentation on a topic within their subject discipline.

What qualification will I achieve?

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Teacher Education).
