NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning - ELearning with Placement

This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering, and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification is to:

  • provide in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to -- - work in a school or college environment
  • provide a stepping-stone into further learning within the sector.

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

What will I study?

To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, learners are required to successfully complete 16 mandatory units and 200 placement hours

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

by the start date have ‘approved’ loan status; have a placement to support your 200 practical hours; completed the East Sussex College short online training courses by the end of your course.

How will I be assessed?

Delivery Style This blended course (online learning and work placement assessment) differs to a classroom course, as you will not be taught. Instead, you will study independently following the online learning materials and completing assignments. Your dedicated unit assessor can be contacted through the message system on the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). If you need any guidance, help, or wish to book in a phone or Teams video support call you can message your assessor or contact the admin team. We allow 12 months to work through the course, so it’s flexible in that you can study when you want eg the course platform is available 24/7 however you will have deadlines to meet to complete each unit assignment.

Work Placement You don’t need any prior experience or qualifications to enrol and get started on this Teacher Assistant course. Though you will need to secure a work placement or already be working within a suitable educational setting to demonstrate your skills.

To successfully complete the qualification, you need to:

  • Allow 200 hours to complete your placement or work experience

Your placement or work experience can be paid or voluntary, so long as it provides the necessary evidence to demonstrate your skills and understanding.

This placement or work experience can take place in a school or college, but not within:

  • After school clubs
  • Distance learning colleges
  • Pre-schools

Attendance This online course doesn’t have any breaks during school holidays – you would study in line with the weekly expected study time (5 - 10 hours per week). Your attendance online should be at least twice a week. If you do schedule a holiday, we would ask that you notify us of the dates so we can make a note of the dates you won’t be logging in.

Payment Options

LOAN FUNDED (ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN) This course is Advanced Learner Loan funded providing you meet the below eligibility criteria:

  • 19+ years old

  • Lived in the UK for 3+ years and currently resident in England

This Government loan will be paid directly to the college, and is linked to your attendance.

You will start to repay your loan when you start to earn over £25,000 per annum (correct at time of posting).

SELF-FUNDING Staged Payments – for courses of over 12 weeks and £200, students can pay in 5 instalments, the first taken as a deposit on enrolment (via BACS) and then 4 instalments via Direct Debit.
