Advanced Learner Loan

Students aged 19 and over and studying on a course at Level 3 and above (excluding HE courses), may be able to apply for a government loan to cover some of the cost of tuition for courses. Students will not have to pay all the tuition fees upfront. The minimum loan amount is £300 and you apply online.

Applying for a loan is not dependent on household income and there are no credit checks. Loans will be paid direct to the College. Students will pay back their loan (plus interest) when they have finished their course and start earning more that £27,295 (changing to £25,000 for courses starting from 1 August 2023). Please note that if students withdraw from their course they will remain liable for the FULL course costs.

Students who take out a loan to cover tuition fees for an Access to HE course at College and then complete a higher education course, won’t have to repay the remaining loan outstanding for the Access to HE course.
