AIMS OF THE COURSE

This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering, and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification is to:

  • provide in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment
  • provide a stepping-stone into further learning within the sector.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?

This qualification is aimed at learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

HOW IS THIS QUALIFICATION STRUCTURED?

To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, learners are required to successfully complete 16 mandatory units and 200 placement hours

  9. Support the Use of ICT in the Learning Environment
  10. Support Assessment for Learning
  11. Engage in Personal and Professional Development
  12. Support Children and Young People’s Speech, Language and Communication
  13. Understand How to Support Bilingual Learners
  14. Understand How to Support Learning of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
  15. Support Children and Young People during Transitions
  16. Support the Role of Play, Leisure and Extra-Curricular Activities for Children and Young People

  • Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges

FUNDING OPTIONS:

LOAN FUNDED (ADVANCED LEANER LOAN)

This course is Advanced Learner Loan funded providing you meet the below eligibility criteria:

  • 19+ years old

  • Lived in the UK for 3+ years and currently resident in England

This Government loan will be paid directly to the college, and is linked to your attendance.

You will start to repay your loan when you start to earn over £25,000 per annum (correct at time of posting).

SELF-FUNDING

Staged Payments – for courses of over 12 weeks and £200, students can pay in 5 instalments, the first taken as a deposit on enrolment (via BACS) and then 4 instalments via Direct Debit.
