ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES

ESOL

  • Do you need English for work, study or everyday life?
  • Do you want to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening?
  • Do you want to meet new people and make new friends?
  • Come and enjoy learning English for speakers of other languages at our Eastbourne, Hastings or Lewes campuses.

ESOL courses are for adults who are not fluent in English and want to improve their language for work, study or living in the UK. We offer a range of part-time ESOL courses at every level in the daytime or evening.

You will learn with other students who have the same level of English. Our teachers are very experienced and they use the most up-to-date materials and a variety of approaches to make sure that your classes are interesting, motivating and effective. Classes include group, pair and project work and computer-based activities.

PLEASE NOTE: We receive a large volume of applications for our ESOL courses, therefore please only apply for a course at one campus.

Our ESOL courses start in September, December, and March each year. Some courses have limited space, and you may need to wait until the next course start date. We will contact you as soon as possible regarding enrolment.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

  • You must have the right to study in the UK and be aged 16+ at the start of term (31st August).

  • You must have a valid visa to cover the entire length of your course.

Entry to an ESOL course is dependent on the results of a written and oral assessment test with one of our tutors. This course requires a high level of commitment, so attendance to all classes is mandatory.

WHAT EXAMS WILL I TAKE?

Most courses will be working towards a national ESOL Skills for Life qualification.

Some classes do not involve exams because they are not working towards a qualification. This will be discussed at enrolment.

HOW LONG ARE THE COURSES?

We have a wide range of courses available at our Eastbourne campus, including daytime and evening courses. Eastbourne ESOL courses run for 11 or 12 weeks. Weekly timetables vary.

Courses in Lewes are between eight and twelve weeks long for approximately twice a week for seven hours per week.

In Hastings we have full time courses, which are five days per week, or part-time courses, which are two days per week. All courses run termly for 11 or 12 weeks.

WHERE CAN I GO NEXT?

All learners will be supported by their tutors to explore their next steps. Many ESOL learners progress onto the following:

- A higher level ESOL course
- English and/or Maths Functional Skills or GCSE
- Further learning at the college
- Employment
